7 Tips For the New Network Markete

Oh, how exciting. You’ve signed the contract. You paid for the kit. Now, once that kit arrives you’ll be set to go. You have such big plans. You have such wonderful ideas.

The kit comes at the end of the next week. Gosh, what took so long? You’ve now committed to a volunteer project once a week. You’ve also committed to a new carpool for your child. You actually did talk to two people in the last week and both of them said no. Maybe you can get your money back for the kit. This isn’t really what you want to do anyway.

Does any of this sound familiar?

Here are 7 tips for the new network marketer to help get the ball rolling:

1. Read and learn about the company. How old is the company? How was the company started? Where are corporate headquarters located? How many distributors does the company have? Who owns the company? What can you learn about that person, or family?

2. Read and learn about the product line. What products are offered? How often are new products introduced? Are there catalogs? How does a distributor order? And how does a customer order? Is there a money back guarantee?

3. Join any online communities you can with other distributors from your company. Sometimes you’ll find team boards, or team groups. Sometimes you’ll find company boards, or company groups. There are tons of work at home message boards out on the internet. Find those that have boards with other distributors from your company. Join them and read what other distributors are saying. Start developing a support network within the distributor circle of your company.

4. Go to either the local book store or a used book store and find a couple of books about business and/or leadership. I really like John Maxwell. He’s written several books on leadership. Another favorite of mine is “Love Is The Killer App” by Tim Sanders. The entire book is about networking,

5. Create a simple business plan. Or at the very least write down both your short term and long term goals. A business plan and goals are your roadmap. Almost no one leaves their home for a cross country trip without some sort of map. If you’ve never been in business before, it’s like going cross country. Without a map, you’re bound to get lost.

6. Sign up for a couple of newsletters or ezines. These can either be about business in general, about network marketing or about your specific industry. If you plan to market online, join one or two newsletters that will help you learn about marketing online. If you plan to host home parties, join one or two newsletters about party plan. Regardless of company affiliation, you need to find hostesses, give presentations, introduce products, etc.

7. Put together your first product order. Even before your kit arrives, you can put together your first product order. Order those sales aids you’ll need also, whether it be catalogs, or information sheets, or samples. Order the supplies you’ll need to sell the product and to talk to others about joining the company.

With these 7 steps completed before your kit ever arrives, the kit will only be a formality, not the starting point. You will have already immersed yourself into your new business and will already be working towards those first goals you’ve set. How I Failed With My First Affiliate Program

About 2 years ago, I started my first affiliate scheme. I've read 2 or 3 e-books on affiliate marketing, joined several forums and finally, I was on my way to "boost my business". Did I have enough knowledge to start? Yes, I did. But what I was missing was experience, which resulted in bad priorities.

Here comes first advice: don't overdo the theory, learn by practice. Literally - be your first affiliate.

We all know that - nothing's for free. You may need much smaller budget for your affiliate program than for PPC campaign, but it takes what it takes. And you won't succeed if you are not ready to do what's necessary.

Before you start, make sure your website actually sells at reasonable conversion ratio. Without it, don't start affiliate program at all, it's a waste of time and money. This is the very first priority.

Back then, I had wonderful opportunity to manage affiliate program for e-book-selling website owned by friend of mine, and it already had average conversion. Well, here's the first mistake - we didn't even try to improve conversion, we were dreaming about affiliate success instead. Anyway website wasn't bad, so we had some real chance..

So we bought tracking software, put the offer on our website, submitted to about 15 affiliate program directories, and invited a few friends to join. And we waited. Nothing big happened; we received about 50 unique visitors after first month. I tried to contact potential partners directly and was disappointed by the fact almost no one replied my emails.

My advice is: Make sure every your customer gets your affiliate offer. Submit to ALL affiliate program directories you can find, it's the best you can do to start. You are more likely to get affiliates this way, then by contacting website owners directly. When contacting directly, learn to evaluate website. Design is less important than content. Be real, don't waste your time contacting websites much more successful than yours - they'll have no motivation to join and they will use their ad space for more attractive offers. Use tools to research websites, e.g. Alexa toolbar (traffic estimation for website) or Google toolbar (importance of website by Google page rank).

We gave our affiliates banners, text links. Give them also customizable product reviews to include on their sites. Their task is to pre-sell, make visitors curious about product. Product review is better than banners for this purpose.

Be active in forums and social networking websites. Be where other people from your niche market are. Ask, discuss - it will give you ideas, opportunity to learn and share knowledge. You may also meet potential affiliates this way.

Make own affiliate website with content related to your e-commerce site, or start a blog on your site. Thus try yourself how hard it is to promote your products.

Be ready for fraudulent purchases with stolen credit cards - set up reasonable payout minimum. Owners of stolen credit cards contacted us usually within 2 months from fraudulent purchases. Check suspicious affiliate's website; ask him what he/she does to be so successful, do not accept websites from free hosting services.

Conclusion: After 5 months, affiliate program finally generated positive ROI. I took a regular job, quit managing affiliate program due to lack of time. At the time I quit, we made about $150 of profit :-). As far as I know, it still works as one of advertising channels for the website, however never managed to outperform PPC campaigns. #3 What bonuses does it give?
Bonuses are an important part of the buying and selling process, for some it could be the pivotal point in the buyer’s decision process. Ask yourself; are the bonuses some crap thrown together? Are they of certain value themselves? Would you be happy with the bonuses if you bought?

#4 How much can you make?
What is the commission like? Do not just blindly select the one which pays the highest commission! You have to take into account the price, whether people will actually buy from the site. You would be better off earning a 50% commission on a $30 book selling 2 units a day rather then earning a 75% commission on a $100 dollar software that sells 2 units per month.

#5 What kind of affiliate resources do they give?
Email solos, banners, classified ads templates and articles are just some of the things you could utilize. What kind of resources do they provide? Do they offer any help? Are these resources easy to use and impltement?

These methods are just a few ways you can determine if a product is worth your time and money promoting. Experimenting and testing is also a very important part of the whole affiliate marketing procedure. And most importantly, never give up!

Affiliate marketing is one tough business. Everyone online today is looking to make or save money in any way they can.

In the good old days when internet marketing was in its infancy, most of the people who clicked on your affiliate links used to purchase without a second thought... but, now as times are getting tougher, and visitors getting more cynical, you'll be amazed at the number who won't!

Just one flaw in a system and you will find dozens of unscrupulous people waiting to exploit it. Same goes for affiliate commission tracker systems. People who know how to manipulate the system will replace your affiliate ID with theirs and "hijack" your commissions.

Most affiliate links are some form or the other of http://www.thesite.com/?YOURID

Where your affiliate id is passed as a parameter. A thief has to simply change the "YOURID" part to "HISID" to put your money in his pocket.

In other cases, there are visitors to your site who simply can't stand the thought of you "making money off them" so they bypass you by simply chopping off the end of your affiliate link that contains your ID.

Instead of buying from http://www.thesite.com/?YOURID -- the bypasser will simply "chop off" the affiliate ID at the end and simply buy from the plain URL http://www.thesite.com/ --without your affiliate ID attached!

Bam! you just got cheated out of your rightful commission.

Studies have shown that this phenomenon causes about 30% lost sales.

By following some of these simple tips you will be able to, if not all, at least confuse most hijackers and, in many cases, often disarm them completely.

You might notice i said most and not all. This is because if the hijacker is well versed at html and javascipt he will be able to eventually get to your affiliate link. However, most hijackers are just opportunists who will only act if they see an easy buck and its this segment that we can beat

The simplest way to hide your affiliate links is using a javascript redirect page.

This is where you hide your affiliate link in a page on your site using a simple javascript that redirects people to your affiliate link.

This way your "naked" affiliate link is not exposed in your actual email messages and ezine ads, but, once people get redirected to the true affiliate link.
One possible drawback of this method is that some affiliate programs, like clickbank for example, expose the affiliate link along with your ID in the browser address bar.

So if the viewer is eagle-eyed he will notice that hes been redirected through and affiliate link.

A safer method to hide your affiliate links is using a zero-frame or "invisible" frame that masks the affiliate link by making it appear you are sending people to a page on your website. In reality, you are actually sending them to your affiliate link.

This technique is also used by many domain redirection service sites.

Unfortunately is the user views the source of the page. He know whats that youve loaded an affiliate link.

The solution is to use javascript encryption to scramble up the page code.

Even though there isn't a 100% perfect solution to this problem, if you want to get paid more often through your affiliate links, make sure it's not obvious you're referring people to an affiliate link.

If they can't see that its a affiliate link, lower the possibility of you getting stiffed of your commission.

1. Create an infopacked mini site. Build your mini site for a specific niche audience and then choose affiliate programs specifically for that niche audience.

2. Test and track your ads and promotions for your affiliate programs.

Tracking and testing your ads will show you exactly which ads, promotions and affiliate programs pay off the most for you and are excellent choices for you to continue to promote.

3. Publish an ezine.

Your ezine will give you a powerful way to promote your affiliate programs to your subscribers.

Choose affiliate programs that relate to the content of your ezine and that make it worth your while to promote them.

4. Promote your affiliate programs by recommending their products.

You could recommend your affiliate programs to your ezine subscribers in your publisher's note or you could create a recommended resources section where you promote your affiliate programs in every issue.

You could also recommend your affiliate programs to your visitors by creating a recommended affiliate programs section where you list your favorite affiliate programs along with descriptions of their products or services.

Article Marketing 101 For Affiliate Program Managers

This article is for Affiliate Program Managers: Interested in increasing the amount of revenue that each of your affiliates creates for your business? Read on to learn about how to use your existing articles to grow your affiliate program strength.

From an affiliate perspective, there are only a few 'deal breaker' type things that I insist any affiliate program that I join must provide me:

Real-time reporting statistics
Real-time email alerts upon each sale
Payment on a consistent monthly basis
High price-point products
Package of articles that I can reprint on my websites and ezines
One strategy that many newbie affiliate program designers fail to offer is a package of articles that can be reprinted on my website along with my unique affiliate link. Of the tens of thousands of dollars I'll do this year as an affiliate, you would be shocked at how much of the revenue comes directly from reprinting articles of the affiliate programs I am involved in. This strategy works for me and it can work for you!

Here's what to do:

Designate 10, 25, 50, 75 or 100 articles that will be made available to your affiliates as a dump (meaning all at once and immediately).
Provide them with 3-10 articles per month thereafter that they can reprint along with their affiliate link.
Be certain to spell out the reprint rights of this type of affiliate article marketing so that your articles don't show up on bad websites you wouldn't want to associate with.
Here's what NOT to do:

Allow your articles to be private labeled. This is a poor strategy and will dilute your credibility. They should carry your name or the name of your primary author brand.
Don't give out all of your articles for your affiliates to use. Best to designate a specific "lot" of them that can be used by your affiliates and the rest are yours to keep exclusively for your direct sales audience.
Why this type of article marketing is important for affiliate program managers and affiliates:

Articles are like "sales agents" in that they keep selling for you, day after day, year after year. They also help expand your reach as each article gets indexed by the major search engines. Lastly, they give you another reason to send an email to your list members about the articles available.

This is a credibility builder for the affiliate program manager and it's a "Give" before the "Take" which begins the reciprocation cycle in a positive direction.

Note For Affiliates Who Use Articles To Promote Their Affiliate Programs:

Some sites (like ours at http://EzineArticles.com/ ) don't accept articles that promote affiliate programs, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't go find other sites that do accept articles that promote affiliate program links. I really meant this article to speak directly to affiliate program managers and not the needs of affiliate marketers.
To save you the trouble of sending me an email to ask why EzineArticles.com doesn't accept articles that promote affiliate programs, there are three reasons:

1) Because we don't accept articles that are available on a non-exclusive basis (meaning we only want to see original or exclusive licensed content) and...

Sign up to the Ebay Affiliate Program using Commission Junction. Visit affiliates.ebay.com for more details.

You will get paid for every signup to Ebay and also paid on each bid they make. Use the Product or Editor Toolkits to create a skyscraper ad or a banner ad to fit within your Traffic / Article Equaliser template. Use the [keyword] function as the search criteria. Or use the Commission Junction search link tool to create a templated results banner or table to use on your Traffic Equalizer template.

The piece of code to change in the example below is the query=ford

Signup to the Amazon affiliate program at associates.amazon.com.

Use the Build links function and select the Recommendend Product Links. From their you can work thorugh and build a whole range of different sized links and banners. Select the Iframe version of the size you require and cut and paste the code into Notepad.

You will see with the code there is search=ford for example:

When you run the Traffic Equaliser, you will be adding a search of the amazon products with the keywords you are using. This will mean everypage will have different results. If there are no results for that keyword when you have built the page go into the page itself and change the keyword for amazon to something which will bring up results

Check with your affiliate network to see if they have the facility to run content links. Commission Junction and Tradedoubler both have programs where you can run definable content links. In the UK, UK Affiliates and Affiliate Window both have these facilities which can work as well.
